The Narragansett Brewing Company is an American brewery founded in Cranston, Rhode Island, in 1890, after which the Rhode Island-born brewery survived Prohibition, became the biggest lager maker in New England, and then, after many complications shut down in the 1980s. Narragansett was again re-established as a brand by Rhode Island resident Mark Hellendrung in 2005. Narragansett is now one of the top 50 breweries in the U.S. and ranks at No. 44 of over 6,000.
After World War II, Narragansett Brewing Company started an ad campaign called “Hi, Neighbor! Have a ‘Gansett” beer maker. This cherry slogan graced newspapers, billboards, and trolley cars.
